Thanksgiving Prep

This year for the first time since 2012, Fabian and I hosted Thanksgiving. The usual suspects were in attendance - Fabi and Katja, Felix and Silvi, Jessi and Steffi. Since we normally celebrate in Göttingen four hours away, it has become part of our tradition to spend the whole weekend together and chill sleepover-style. Even though we celebrated only about 30 minutes away from everyones' parents' homes this year, I personally felt we should keep that same atmosphere going, and so during October we worked hard to prep our upstairs for overnight guests!

Here are a few photos taken just before the party started on Saturday.

Step 1: We took the table from our computer room and set it
up in the dining room. We opened the window, closed the door, and
our office became the cooling room for our drinks.

Step 2: We cleaned and organized the attic, built some
shelving, and prepared the first two sleeping spots with
collapsible mattresses.

Step 3: Hansi's air mattress and our old mattress from the
bedroom became sleeping areas #2 and #3.

Step 4: We can't have cold tootsies, can we?

Step 5: Our couch was moved from the side
wall to back wall, and the living room
becomes a dininr room!

Now we were ready for our 6 overnight guests! Our final preparations were on Satruday morning - pick up the turkey (we ordered an 8 pounder and were given a 12 pounder!), get all the ingredients ready, gather the recipes, etc. As the hosts, we planned the menu and did all the grocery shopping in advance and everyone pitched in at the end to cover the cost of the meal.

When the final touches were finished, we headed to Charly Brosi's 60th birthday celebration for lunch. It was a tad stressful fitting everthing into one weekend, but luckily it all went without a hitch. The party was in Großbottwar, and on the way there we dropped the turkey innards at Fabi Joos' house so that he could get started on the gravy and sauce. We spent a good 3 hours visiting and celebrating with the Brosis and their extended family. Fabi could hardly get a free minute from playing with Yaron! It was great to see everyone again, and even though we left a little early, we weren't the first to leave.

Post #2 is on its way... with details about the actual Thanksgiving fest!

  1. Oh! I know how things are during thanksgiving. Even I arranged beds for everybody this time. We all planned to stay together in the hall and it was a fun night together. Now, the next get together will be on my birthday after 5 months. I have already booked one of the LA venues for the party.
